Britney Spears – first steps on the road to the stars
One of the biggest pop stars our planet has seen has ended a year best characterized as wild and unpredictable, especially for a star that has shown such early potential, talent and imagination in creating some of the most memorable songs adored by millions. Picking up an article on the internet or reading it in a newspaper it is impossible to avoid seeing a new low and a slow drift into the abyss she herself created.
Born in December 2 1981 in a small town of McComb, Mississippi, and raised in Kentwood, Louisiana of parents Lynne and James Spears. Her father worked as a building contractor all his life and her mother Lynne as a teacher. She also has a brother Bryan and a sister Jamie. From an early age as young as 9 years she was competing in gymnastics on a state level. As was customary for a young and bright southern girl at the time she joined the local Baptist church and was performing in its dance revues.
The “New Mickey Mouse Club” which aired on the Disney channel was what started her career – she auditioned for it when she was just eight years old. Unfortunately she was considered too young to join thus cast and was instead introduced to an agent in New York City seeing the producers recognized her obvious talent. In the next three summers while in New York City she appeared in a few off-Broadway plays while at the Professional Performing Arts School. At the age of 9 she appeared in Ruthless a famous Broadway show. Next year in 1992 she appeared in Star Search a very popular TV show and won the first round and lost the 2nd. When she was eleven she was no longer considered too young for The New Mickey Mouse Club in Lakeland, Florida and was the star attraction in it in the years 1993 and 1994. After the show completed its run she returned to her hometown, Kentwood where she went to high school for another year.
Two years later was a very productive year for Britney as she was, as briefly as it happened to be, a part of a all-Female group Innosense, and later in 1997 made a contract with Jive Records and embarked on a concert touring the United States for which the sponsor was American Teen Magazine. Later that year she opened for the Backstreet Boys and N’Sync while just turning fifteen.
In 1998 she became an international superstar with her song, “(Hit me) Baby One More Time”. The song itself promoted an image of innocence while the video gave some hints as to what was to come. The original idea for the video was to be an all cartoon style environment as to attract a younger audience. Britney herself disapproved of the concept wishing a more mature context and production took place at Venice High School. The look Britney sported, of an innocent schoolgirl with pigtails and exposed midriff helped rocked her to superstardom.
